Amilkar Bhana does the double

Friday 15th January  –

Back to back BFMJS events were held at the immaculately conditioned Royal Johannesburg and Kensington GC (West Course) on Wednesday the 13th January and at Reading Country Club the following day. Both days the players were greeted with good golfing conditions.

Amilkar Bhana, who had a runaway win at CMR in October last year, recorded a fine 67 at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington – winning by a clear 2 shots. His round included 5 birdies but a bogey at the difficult par 4 5th was the only blemish. Amilkar completed the last 9 holes in 32 shots, 4 under par. A really fine performance by one of South Africa’s leading juniors.

In 2nd place with excellent returns of 69 were Jack Brugman (Strand GC) and Marine Legentil (Country Club Johannesburg). The B division was won by Raahil Bhika (CMR) on 80, and the U13s by Minjun Heo (KD Mowbray GC) on a fine 73.

The Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series launched in 2017, is managed by the SA Golf Development Board and endorsed by GolfRSA. Open to boys and girls in the U13 and U19 divisions, it is played across 18 tournaments at leading courses countrywide.

At Reading Country Club the next day, Gareth Matthysen (Reading CC) recorded a fine 6 under par 65, followed by Kayle Wykes (CMR) on 69.

Gareth had 5 birdies, an eagle on the par 5 12th, the only blemish was a drop shot at the 10th. Juan Coetzee (Serengeti) won the U13As on a gross 74.
