Christiaan Maas eagles his way to victory

Sunday 4th October –

Pretoria Country Club member, Christiaan Maas, spread-eagled the field with a superb finish at the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series (BFMJS) Tour event held at Zwartkop Country Club. The warm windless day showed that the weather and Christiaan’s golf were both equally hot on the day. This was the 7th event in the 4th edition of the BFMJS Tour.

Standing on the 16th tee both Christiaan Maas and Zandre Labuschagne (Silver Lakes) were 2 under whilst Nash de Klerk (Pecanwood) was 1 under. Three holes later Christiaan walked away the winner by finishing the final 3 holes, eagle(3) par(3) eagle(3). This was a dominating performance by a player who is one of the in-form players in the country.

Christiaan was 2 under after 4 holes, birdieing both par 5s, the 1st and 4th. An unfortunately double drop 6 at the par 4 6th did not deter him from signing for a sparkling 65. The final 9 was a 6 under par 29!

After a count-out for the top three positions Nash de Klerk was awarded runner-up with Zandre Labuschagne finishing 3rd, both players recording 69s.

By winning the Zwartkop leg Christiaan Maas has qualified for the regional North finals of the BFMJS, where he will be playing for the opportunity to compete at Pinehurst in July 2021.

The Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series launched in 2017, is managed by the SA Golf Development Board and endorsed by GolfRSA. Open to boys and girls in the U13 and U19 divisions, it is played across 18 tournaments at leading courses countrywide.

Other notable scores at Zwartkop Country Club were the 4 players on 71, namely

Reagan Kraft (Wingate Park), Joshua Koekemoer (Silver Lakes), Marco Anderson (Zwartkop) and a past BFMJS winner Fabrizio de Abreu (Woodhill).

The B division was won by Mangwe Ntsele (Irene CC) on 89, the C Division by Lerato Mosiane (Irene CC) with 38 points. The Under 13As was won by Bryan Newman (Pecanwood) with an excellent 73.
