Matthew Dennis birdies way to victory

Matthew Dennis birdies way to victory

28th February –

A fine round that included 6 birdies saw Matthew Dennis (Centurion Country Club) comfortably win the BFMJS Gauteng North leg at Wingate Park CC. A bogey at the par 4 4th and a double drop at the penultimate hole were the only hiccups in a well constructed round. Turning 2 under par, Matthew had birdies at the 10th, 15th and 16th but the 6 at the par 4 17th did not deter him, finishing the final hole with a birdie.

Superb golfing weather and a well conditioned course, after recent good rains, saw a field of over 100 players enjoy the challenge.

Runner up was JC Schutte (Silver Lakes GC) on a 1 under 71 – playing the 4 par 5s 4 under par (an eagle and 2 birdies). Another highlight of the day was the hole-in-one scored by Nico Els at the 5th hole – Nico finished level par on 72 to finish 3rd.

By winning the Wingate Park leg Matthew Dennis has qualified for the regional North finals of the BFMJS, where he will be playing for the opportunity to compete at Pinehurst in July 2021.
